This book presents the concepts which form the foundation of Electrical Engineering. The book covers fundamentals of DC circuits, single-phase and threephase AC circuits, electromagnetism, domestic wiring, basic instrumentation and protection schemes, and fundamentals of electrical machines. A number of
examples have been included in each chapter to illustrate the applications of the concepts. The book is amply illustrated to make the subject easily understandable.
K. Uma Rao is Professor of Electrical Engineering at RV College of Engineering, Bangalore.
Earlier she was Associate Professor, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. She obtained her
B.E. and M.E. degrees from UVCE, Bangalore and her Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore. She has over 27 years of teaching and research experience. She has over 150
technical papers to her credit. She is the author of 8 other books including adapted editions
of Schaum’s Outline Series in Electric Circuits, Schaum’s Outline Series in Power Systems,
8051 Microcontrollers and MSP 430 Processor, Power System Operation and Control and
Basic Electrical Engineering. Her research areas include power system dynamics, FACTS and
Power Quality.
