Description
Mechanics is an important topic in the study of Physics, and is being taught in most of the
universities in India as well as abroad to B.Sc., B.Tech. and B.Sc. (Hons.) students. This
area of science deals with the behaviour of physical bodies when subjected to forces or
displacements, and the subsequent effects of the bodies on their environment.
Mechanics has its origin in the ancient period. Scientists, such as Galileo, Kepler and
Newton, laid the foundation of classical mechanics which deals with the particles that are
either at rest or are moving with velocities significantly less than the speed of light.
Fundamentals of Mechanics discusses the Vectors, Laws of Motion, Conservation Laws,
Inverse-Square-Law Forces, Harmonic Oscillator, Theory of Relativity, and Non-inertial
Reference Frames. Each topic is explained in a simple language with the help of line
drawings and exercises. Mathematical expressions are given as per the need and are
derived in a systematic and simple manner.
Mohit Kumar Sharma is National Postdoctoral Fellow of Science & Engineering
Research Board ( ), Department of Science & Technology ( ), New SERB DST Delhi at
Amity Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences, Amity
University, Noida. Earlier, he worked as Asstt. Prof. in ITM University, Gwalior, M.P., India.
He has received Young Scientist Award (2014) of Indian Science Congress Association,
Kolkata. He did his Ph.D (Physics) from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. He is coauthor of eight
textbooks and he has published 27 research papers in the journals of international repute.
He is life member of Astronomical Society of India; Indian Science Congress Association,
Kolkata; Indian Society of Atomic & Molecular Physics; Indian Association of Physics
Teachers; and Astrochemistry Society of India.
He has published 160 research papers in the journals of international repute, and has
written 20 books, 32 scientific articles and 8 articles pertaining to higher education.
Suresh Chandra is Deputy Director & Professor at Amity Centre for Astronomy &
Astrophysics, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences, Amity University, Noida. Earlier, he was
Director, School of Physical Sciences, SRTM University, Nanded (Maharashtra), and
Director, School of Physical Sciences, and Dean of Students in SMVD University, Katra
(J&K). He obtained his M.Sc. (Physics) (1972) and Ph.D (1977) from Meerut University
(now called, Ch. Charan Singh University), Meerut. He is Fellow of the Royal Astronomical
Society (London), Fellow of the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences (Pune), Associate
Member of the Third World Academy of Sciences (Italy), Fellow of the Alexander von
Humboldt Foundation (Germany), Life Member of the International Astronomical Union,
and Life Member of several other national academic bodies.
