This book aims to upgrade the accounting skills of professionals through the latest computer
software, Tally.ERP 9. The book begins with the basics of accounting and move towards the details
of computerised accounting.
The book is divided into two parts: Part I is on manual accounting dealing with the fundamentals
of accounting right from its basic concepts, conventions, terminology to creating and maintaining
journals, ledgers, balance sheets, etc.
Part II deals with computerised accounting. It covers the subject matter starting from the installation
of the Tally software to performing intricate accounting procedures, such as creation of account
groups and ledgers; creation of stock categories, godowns, and stock items; creation of cost centres
and cost categories; creation of accounting and inventory vouchers; and creation of purchase/sales
orders, invoices and reports. This part also covers certain essential features of Tally, such as multicurrency,
budget, scenario management, importing and exporting company data, taking backup and
restoring data, interest calculations, and Tally audit, etc. This part also explains how to access and
use the Internet facilities, such as e-mailing and Web publishing, in Tally.ERP 9.
The book further discusses the latest system of taxation along with the concepts of TDS and GST in
detail. Finally, the book covers the payroll system, which includes creating employees, managing
pay heads, defining salary details, generating payroll reports, calculating gratuity and provident
fund, etc.
